Dry and Wet Vacuums

As a parent or pet owner, you must often find a mess in the house, which many of us are dealing with almost daily. Kids are very active and curious that sometimes can bring disaster to their home. Removing dry and wet mess from the flooring is not an easy task, and chances are this is a job for the mop. But, what if you can mop while also vacuuming? Because this is what dry and wet vacuums are offering.

As the name suggests, the wet and dry vacuum is a vacuum system that can suck water without damaging the component. They are highly convenient because we can take care of the mess with just one appliance, whether just for daily cleaning or when you need some serious help. Are wet and dry vacuums worth it? Absolutely, this can be a game-changer for parents and pet owners who often have to mop their hard floor due to spills.

Can you vacuum water with a regular vacuum? No, traditional vacuums such as Tineco Pure One S11 Vs One X are not designed to pick up any liquid. While they may look similar from the outside, vacuuming liquid with a dry vacuum may cause some severe damage to the appliance. Can you use the wet and dry vacuum on the carpet? Yes, they will suck the debris and water back, but note that the vacuum will leave the carpet a bit damp without an instant drying feature.

About Tineco S5 and Bissell CrossWave X7

Many home appliances that make vacuum cleaners will have a wet and dry vacuum in their collection. They usually come in an upright style with two tanks to contain a solution and dirty water separately. This way, cleaning the appliance is easy because we can remove the dirty water after each use. Like dry vacuums, it is crucial to have the reliable suction power to help capture the mess as effectively as possible. Without a good suction, we may have to deal with stains and damp floors.

Tineco and Bissell made some of the most interesting wet and dry vacuums we have ever seen for those interested in smart vacuums. These brands are probably known as the alternative to Dyson because they are typically more affordable, but they also have plenty of high-end models to fit the demand. Some of them are Tineco S5 and Bissell CrossWave X7. Bissell is probably more well-known for its original CrossWave, and you can see this X7 as the higher, more innovative option with similarly reliable performance.

The Tineco S5 and Bissell CrossWave X7 are the perfect solutions for parents and pet owners battling spills and furs getting stuck on their carpet or flooring. However, they are not identical, and if you have many carpets which will want to use the vacuum as a dry vacuum only, the CrossWave X7 is the only one that can perform a dry vacuum for flooring. This vacuum has a feature that will prevent the water from spraying the roller, like a 2-in-1 solution.

On the other hand, S5 is the only one that can perform above-floor cleaning. A regular stick or upright vacuum can use a small brush like a crevice tool, and this model has this feature. Sadly, it doesn’t have the floor attachment to perform the same dry vacuum. Performance-wise we are satisfied with the two because they are proven effective. You probably want to consider what extra features that seem to match the application we often do around the house.

Tineco S5 and Bissell CrossWave X7 Design

Like most vacuums, the Tineco S5 and Bissell CrossWave X7 are coming unassembled to make them easier to ship. The box is quite huge; it’s almost the same size as a mini-fridge. Inside the box, you will get the handle, main body, and the cleaning head already attached to the vacuum. They also ship a bottle of the solution, and it seems the warranty will void if you use the solution from other brands. Both are cordless vacuums, so they have a charging dock mounted on the floor.

This charging dock will connect to the wall power, and your vacuum will sit on the tray in an upright position. There is a pin connector on the back where the charging is happening. We don’t think the battery is removable, at least by users, so we are stuck with the initial capacity. We also get this mini brush, almost like a bottle cleaner, to help wash the vacuum tank. For S5, the motor is detachable to connect a crevice tool for above-floor cleaning.

Tineco S5 and Bissell CrossWave X7 Performance

Now let’s see what the famous Tineco S5 and Bissell CrossWave X7 can offer on the performance side. We notice that wet and dry vacuums are typically not as powerful as a regular dry vacuum when it comes to pure suction power. This is also applicable to these vacuums, but the cleaning ability is impressive by combining a cleaning solution and a fast-rotating brush. If your typical spill is just water, juice, milk, coffee, or tea, it can be cleaned in just one pass.

Surprisingly the floor is not wet; it is damp but will dry in seconds or minutes. These vacuums control the water, so they don’t dispense too much of it at a time and combine it with good suction power. Condiments like ketchup and mustard are not a problem; even raw eggs can be cleaned up, but we suggest removing the shell first for a more effective result. We also find that you can dry the floor faster with X7 by not pressing its solution trigger.

Tineco S5 and Bissell CrossWave X7 Features

Next, for the additional features, here is where things get a little bit more sophisticating for Tineco S5 and Bissell CrossWave X7. They work well on flooring, but they also have some exciting features, especially the S5. Tineco has iLoop technology to detect the mess we are working to clean. In Auto mode, this feature will automatically adjust the cleaning setting based on the detection, or you can choose the Max mode for deep cleansing. Bissell doesn’t have automatic detection, but it has cleaning settings.

There are Hard Floor, Area Rug, and Turbo cleaning modes. They are affecting both the water solution amount and the suction strength. Hard floor mode will dispense the least water and lower suction; the rug mode will double the water and suction while the turbo mode will increase the water and suction higher than the rug. Turbo mode is perfect for cleaning stains or stubborn dirt from the flooring. If you don’t want to use the water, we can vacuum-like usual without pressing the solution trigger.

For the S5, our favorite feature is the detachable motor which allows you to attach another cleaning extension such as a crevice tool for cleaning the sofa or any surface. Tineco S5 is not dispensing water in this mode, but the battery somehow runs faster than when vacuuming the floor.

Tineco S5 and Bissell CrossWave X7 Battery Life

Because Tineco S5 and Bissell CrossWave X7 are battery-powered, we rely on the built-in battery to perform daily cleaning. We find them last for about 20-30 minutes per full charge, so we can’t do a complete cleaning, especially if you have plenty of carpets or use the higher setting often. Charging also takes hours, so we prefer to clean in a batch. The fact that we can’t buy another battery limits the full capacity of these vacuums.

Tineco S5 and Bissell CrossWave X7 Maintenance

Lastly, there is a handy feature on both vacuums for maintenance, and it is a self-cleaning function. This feature will start the motor and spin the roller quickly while flushing it with water. They have a filter that can be washed and dried and reused. The bottle brush cleaner we mentioned above is convenient to clean the suction channel if it gets blocked by dirt. The water tank is similarly easy to remove and rinse with running water.

Tineco S5 Vs Bissell CrossWave X7

Both Tineco S5 and Bissell CrossWave X7 are impressive wet and dry vacuums. We are satisfied with the vacuuming performance. The noticeable difference is S5 has an automatic mode that can adjust the cleaning based on its sensor, while Bissell has an extensive cleaning mode for different applications. Bissell can be used as a dry vacuum, but it will be less powerful than your typical stick or upright vacuums. On the other hand, S5 can also do a dry vacuum in handheld mode.

Conclusion

It isn’t easy to choose because each vacuum has its users. We recommend Tineco S5 if you have primarily hard flooring in the house and want a versatile vacuum used in handheld mode. But, we will recommend CrossWave X7 for users with hard and carpeted surface combinations because we can use this model as wet or dry for cleaning the floor.
